From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline including angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of heroes who will separate from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- But, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could assist the party access places they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Fans can anticipate finding out which players will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
